Hazid is our asbestos & environmental advisory arm. This is draft content for review.

Independent, evidence-based assessment

Whether you're acquiring a site, planning a development, completing due diligence, or responding to a suspected issue, you need an impartial picture of what's present and what it means. Our assessors scope the investigation, sample soil and materials methodically, have everything analysed by an accredited laboratory, and set out the findings and their implications clearly. The result is a report that stands up to scrutiny — from buyers and financiers to councils and regulators.

Because Hazid is advisory-only, our assessment is impartial: we have no stake in over-scoping the works that follow. Where remediation or removal is needed, it's delivered separately by the licensed Asbestos Watch field team — so you get independent oversight and a single accountable group from assessment through to clearance.

Right for you if you're buying, developing or doing due diligence on a site and need an impartial, evidence-based picture of what's present.

How a Hazid assessment works

  1. 1

    Scope & desktop review

We define the assessment to your site and obligations — reviewing site history and use, and identifying the contaminants of potential concern (asbestos, hazardous materials, and where relevant other site contaminants).

  2. 2

    Structured site sampling

Qualified assessors sample soil, materials and surfaces to a documented, defensible sampling plan — not ad-hoc grabs. Where useful, suspect materials are screened on-site for a fast indicative read.

  3. 3

    Accredited laboratory analysis

Samples are analysed by a NATA-accredited laboratory so the result is independent and legally defensible — confirmation, not opinion.

  4. 4

    Risk & implications evaluation

We assess what the findings mean for occupants, workers and your project — exposure risk, your obligations, and whether further investigation or remediation is warranted.

  5. 5

    Clear written report

A plain-English report: methodology, results, a site plan of findings, implications and recommended next steps — written to hand straight to stakeholders.

  6. 6

    Advice on next steps

We talk you through the findings and your options, and can scope any remediation or management required — with works delivered independently by the Asbestos Watch field team.

Contamination assessment FAQs

When do I need a contamination assessment?

Typically before acquiring or developing a site, during due diligence, before a change of land use, or whenever contamination is suspected. Lenders, councils and purchasers increasingly ask for one. If you're unsure whether an assessment is warranted, call us and we'll advise on your situation. (Confirm scope before launch.)

What does the assessment cover?

It's scoped to your site, but generally a desktop/site-history review, a documented sampling plan, accredited laboratory analysis of soil and materials, a risk evaluation and a written report. We assess for asbestos and hazardous materials; where broader site contaminants are in scope we'll say so up front. (Confirm exact assessment types offered before launch.)

Is the laboratory analysis accredited?

Yes — samples are analysed by a NATA-accredited laboratory, so the result is independent and defensible rather than a field opinion. (Confirm NATA wording before launch.)

Can you give me a result on the day?

For asbestos materials, our assessors can screen suspect samples on-site with a mobile analyser for a fast indicative read, which is useful for early decisions. Anything that needs to be relied on is confirmed through the accredited laboratory. (Confirm the on-site screening claim applies to assessment work before launch.)

Is Hazid independent from the removal works?

Yes. Hazid is the advisory arm — assessment, reporting and oversight only. Where remediation or removal is needed, it's carried out separately by the Asbestos Watch field team, so the assessment stays impartial and you still have one accountable group end-to-end. (Confirm preferred wording for the AW/Hazid relationship.)

What's the difference between an assessment and an asbestos inspection?

An asbestos property inspection identifies asbestos-containing materials in a building, usually for buyers, renovators or removal scoping. A contamination assessment is broader — it investigates the site (often including soil) for asbestos and other hazardous materials, typically for development, due diligence or a suspected issue. We can advise which one you actually need.
