Don't guess — get it tested
You can't tell whether a material contains asbestos by looking at it. Before you cut, drill, sand or skip it, get a definitive result — from a posted sample or a property inspection.
Why a definitive test matters
Old cement sheeting, floor tiles, pipe lagging and textured coatings can all look harmless and still contain asbestos. Disturbing them to 'have a look' is exactly what releases fibres. The safe move is to test first: if you can collect a small sample safely, post it in; if it's widespread or you're not sure what you're dealing with, have the property inspected.
